Malnutrition
An estimated 690 million people globally suffer from malnutrition, which commonly affects pregnant women and young children in countries with developing economies. The lack of proper nutrition can impede development and cause overall weakening of the body.
In Burundi, Alphonsine is a 34-year-old mother of four who lost mobility due to a form of malnutrition caused by a lack of protein.
With the help of crutches, Alphonsine can stand for less than five minutes before her legs give out.
Alphonsine often feels isolated from the rest of her community and relies on her children to help her out because she doesn't have a caregiver.
Thankfully, there is hope for Alphonsine!
