Join Us and Move for Mobility
This May, get moving for a great cause!
Wherever you are, get moving—you can run, walk, hike, roll, swim, jump, bike, or any other activity of your choice—in a 5K, 10K, half-marathon, or full marathon while raising funds to provide new wheelchairs to people with disabilities in developing countries.
In celebration of our 20th anniversary this April, we are challenging all of our participants to recruit 20 friends to donate at least $20 for the Move for Mobility Challenge. Will you take the challenge? Use hashtag #20YearsofMobility and tag us on your social media!
When you register, you'll receive a newly designed Move for Mobility athletic T-shirt (depicted above), wristband, access to a fundraising toolkit, an invitation to a private Facebook training group, and a medal for completing your goal and submitting a finish-line photo with your race time.
Virtual Move For Mobility • May 1-31, 2021
“We had a great time last year participating in the Virtual [Move] for Mobility! We did a 'hike for mobility' and got to spend time doing what we love while supporting a great cause. We hiked at a time convenient for us, had friends who were more than happy to support us, and even brought our dog Baxter along to lead the way!“
- Susan Rubio, Ambassador for Free Wheelchair Mission
“Last year’s ‘Move for Mobility’ was awesome. Renee and I got to spend a beautiful time hiking in the Casper Mountains with daughter Sarah and our grandchildren. So looking forward to doing it again this year and bringing more people along to bring hope to those in need."
-George Hage, Ambassador for Free Wheelchair Mission
"I believe that when I walk for mobility, I am not just walking to raise funds for wheelchairs. I'm not walking only to change lives for those around the world who cannot walk. But, with Jesus' blessing, I am also walking for my donors. I am reminding them of my own mobility journey and what Jesus has done, can do, and will do through each and every one of us by the power of His love. I believe walking to be a 'Jesus-team' journey of love, new and different every time."
-Nanette Suarez, Ambassador for Free Wheelchair Mission
Frequently Asked Questions
What does it mean to participate virtually?
It means you can do whatever activity you love to do, wherever you are, all for a great cause!
With the Virtual Move for Mobility, you can run in your backyard, on a treadmill, or at an official race. You can walk around your neighborhood or hike a local trail. You can bike out in the open air or get your miles in on a stationary bike. Swim laps, do jumping jacks... It's all up to you!
Can I still participate if I don't walk, run, bike, etc.?
Yes! By participating in the fundraiser, you are still helping to raise both awareness of the cause and funds to provide wheelchairs to individuals in need in developing countries. We encourage you to join us! Help spread the word with this downloadable sign.
Does it cost anything to register?
No! It is free to sign up for the Virtual Move for Mobility. Our hope is that you will be inspired to fundraise or donate to help at least one person receive a new wheelchair. Your $80 donation will change someone’s life forever! However, we invite you to accept our fundraising challenge at the following levels:
- 5K = 3 Wheelchairs/$240
- 10K = 4 Wheelchairs/$320
- Half Marathon = 6 Wheelchairs/$480
- Full Marathon = 7 Wheelchairs/$560
*If you have fundraised for Free Wheelchair Mission in the past, please use your email address and existing login for Classy to create your Move for Mobility fundraising page.
What does registration include?
The welcome packet includes a Move For Mobility t-shirt, wristband, and fundraising/social media tool kits.
You'll also get an invitation to join a private Facebook group where you will receive inspiration on fundraising and training, and join a community of philanthropic runners to support your efforts.
Once you complete your miles, post a selfie to social media and fill out the run tracker. A race medal will be mailed to you.
Do the miles need to be completed at one time?
The race is open from Saturday, May 1 to Monday, May 31. Complete your distance at your convenience, all in one day, or over the course of the month.
How do participants post finish times?
We ask all participants to post their times two different ways:
1. Complete the tracker with your time, activity, and distance. All participants will be posted to the celebration page, which will be available online starting May 2. In order to receive a race medal, all participants must complete the tracker by May 31. Starting Tuesday, June 1, we will begin mailing out all race medals those who submit their times.
2. To receive a race medal, take a picture or short video as you finish the last mile and post it to Free Wheelchair Mission's Facebook page, along with your own page, and tag @freewheelchairmission in your post. Include any inspirational comments about the journey!
