Ways to Get Your Company Involved
Any of these ideas can be done at any time of the year or during Free Wheelchair Mission’s annual Move for Mobility in May!
Hold an Event
- Host an all-employee and family event/picnic/game day that engages your employees in a deeper way around mobility.
- Present Free Wheelchair Mission and the need for mobility as the inspiration behind the gathering, to share an opportunity of how employees and their families can give back to the global community alongside the company.
- Set up a team with your employees or colleagues and participate in a local 5k to bring awareness and funding to the need for mobility.
- Encourage your team to post and share on social media to help spread awareness of the cause of mobility.
- Award points for posts, shares, likes, etc.
Move for a Week
- Start the week with a kick-off meeting, with the option of a presentation by a Free Wheelchair Mission team member.
- Set up a series of daily activities, challenges, or humanitarian/charity awareness presentations to empower your teams to make a difference.
- Encourage your team to post and share on social media throughout the week to help spread awareness of the cause of mobility.
- Award points for posts, shares, likes, etc.

- Celebrate your accomplishments at the end of the week by sharing the final impact made.
- Host an awards ceremony or staff lunch.
- Offer prizes such as a day off or a gift card for points earned during the weeklong challenge.

Move for a Month
- Join Free Wheelchair Mission during the month of May for our annual Move for Mobility campaign.
- May is Global Employee Health and Fitness Month, as well as Mental Health Awareness Month
- Or, join Move for Mobility anytime throughout the year!
- October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month
- Try a Weekly Challenge program for your team:
- Send a Monday email each week with suggested challenge and have team members reply back with their achievements, photos & such to receive their milestone marker or stay accountable!
- Example:
- Week 1: Get outside!
- Monday Email – Take 15-20 minute walks outside on your lunch break or shortly after work. Email back photos and how many steps/miles you walked through the week!
- Add Free Wheelchair Mission wheelchair recipient “story of the week” to share with their family and friends, requesting support if they are fundraising individually.
- Friday Email – Share highlights of cumulative steps/miles/minutes walked by all participants with a few photos.
- Monday Email – Take 15-20 minute walks outside on your lunch break or shortly after work. Email back photos and how many steps/miles you walked through the week!
- Week 2: Try something new, like a new gym studio class or a new walking, rolling, or hiking trail, and invite your family on your weekly wellness activities.
- Week 3: Drink more water!
- Week 4: Step up your weekly goal to new heights!

- Daily/weekly fitness challenges
- Use exercise-tracking apps like Strava to measure progress.

- Have teams of different departments compete against each other for the most engagement or fundraising.

- Host lecture-style sessions with live Q&A at the end.

- Does your company have a foundation or employee matching gift program? Use these tools to empower engagement!
- Award points for achievements in fundraising or in spreading the word by posting/sharing on social media and/or getting the most "likes" on posts.
- Reward participants at the end of your daily/weekly/monthly challenge with gifts such as:
- An extra paid day off for the winning team.
- Gift cards for the most successful fundraisers.
- Free lunch for all participants.
- Remind all participants that everyone wins because their efforts are providing mobility to others in need around the world.
