Over the past week, I have been with a team in Peru, meeting with our local partner and distributing wheelchairs to people such as Pedro, a strong and determined 39-year-old who does his best to provide for his wife and two children.

We met Pedro as he sold pastries on a crowded bus platform.

Pedro was diagnosed with muscular dystrophy when he was eight years old. His legs aren’t strong enough for him to walk, so he requires assistance to move about. His 16-year-old daughter would take him to the bus station on her way to school, and his friends would carry him up the stairs to get his vending post.

Pedro dreamed of having a wheelchair that would allow him to travel to the market and sell his pastries there.

His dream came true when we brought a wheelchair to his home, a rented room of roughly 180 square feet near the Lima airport.

What struck me about Pedro is the sense of peace, contentment, and love he exudes. He believes in the Lord and recounted many stories of how God answered prayers and provided solutions for challenges that he did not know how to face.

Pedro sees this wheelchair as yet another miraculous answer to prayer, a gift provided by the Lord.

You and I have the privilege of being God’s hands on earth, expressing His love and facilitating answers to prayer. Thank you for your prayers and partnership.

Blessings,

Don Schoendorfer
