David, 19, lives with his parents and siblings in a small town on the northeastern coast of Peru. His father earns a living as a motorcycle taxi driver while his mother works at the local market.
When he was just out of high school, David was robbed at gunpoint and shot. The bullet lodged in his spine, causing paralysis of his lower body. He would spend the next year recovering in a hospital bed.
His parents could not afford to buy him any mobility aids, so once David was discharged, he did not leave the house very often. He would ask for help from his mother, who stayed home to be his caregiver, and whenever he needed to go anywhere, he would crawl or be carried.
David was thrilled to receive a new wheelchair from our local distribution partner, Camino de Vida. Now, he has “a safe and respectable way of getting around without needed to ask for help from others.” He is deeply thankful to everyone who helped get him the wheelchair, including donors and volunteers.
I, too, am thankful for all of you. Free Wheelchair Mission would not be able to do what we do without the generosity, time, and support of friends like you.
Thank you for choosing to partner with us.
