Join Team Mobility and Virtually Run or Walk for Mobility
Join the Virtual Run for Mobility June 12th–22nd and make your miles matter!
When outbreaks like COVID-19 or natural disasters strike in a developing country, those who live with disabilities are often at the greatest risk. Join Free Wheelchair Mission in providing these communities with life-saving medical and mobility supplies.
Wherever you are, walk or run a 5K, 10K, half-marathon, or full marathon while raising funds to give medical and mobility supplies to people with disabilities in developing nations.
Virtual Run For Mobility • June 12–22, 2020
"Starting over or starting something new is hard, whether times are good or not. We can find motivation from time to time, but what gets us out the door through the very tough days is finding what our inspiration is. I wanted to help support a cause that touches my heart, knowing our running can help transform our lives and others'. Free Wheelchair Mission inspires me as an athlete, coach, and human being that we can make a difference."
- Nadia Ruiz, Marathoner | Endurance Coach
"I do the Run for Mobility because It’s the reminder I need. I use this event to keep myself humble and remember the joy of having my own mobility. It gives me a chance to appreciate having mobility in every part of my body."
- Georgia Kloos, Free Wheelchair Mission Director of Development & Strategic Initiatives
"I run for those who can’t. Helping one person might not change the world, but it will change the world for one person. One more!!!"
-Perla Padgett, Advisors Mortgage Group
What does it mean to run/walk virtually?
While you should always follow guidance from local, state, and national authorities, one of the activities that people can still do in many parts of the country during this time of social distancing is exercise safely at home. By June, some areas may also allow people to get outside again to run or walk.
But even if you are still confined indoors, you could walk or run in place—or even use a treadmill or stair-stepper. Or run in circles in your backyard!
Does it cost anything to register?
No! It is free to sign up for the Virtual Run for Mobility. All we ask is that you fundraise at least $80, but encourage individuals to raise a minimum amount based on the distance completed:
- 5K: $240
- 10K: $320
- 1/2 Marathon: $480
- Full Marathon: $560
What does registration include?
The welcome packet includes a Run For Mobility t-shirt, wristband, and a runner and social media tool kit. Also get an invitation to join a private Facebook group where you will receive inspiration on fundraising and training and join a community of philanthropic runners to support your efforts.
Once you complete your miles, post a selfie to social media, and fill out the run tracker, the first 100 runners will receive a race medal in the mail.
Do the miles need to be completed at one time?
The race is open from Friday, June 12th to Monday, June 22nd. Run or walk your distance all in one day or do several miles a day throughout the week. Do the miles at your convenience!
How do participants post finish times?
We ask all participants to post their times two different ways:
1. Complete the run tracker form with your times, and distance. All times will be posted to the runner celebration page, which will be available online starting June 12th. In order to receive a race medal all participants must complete the run tracker by June 22nd. Starting Tuesday, June 23rd we will begin mailing out all race medals to the first 100 runners who submit their times.
2. To receive a race medal, take a picture or short video as you finish the last mile and post it to Free Wheelchair Mission's facebook page and your own and tag FWM in your post. Include any inspirational comments about the journey.
What if I was already fundraising for the OC Marathon?
All of the funds raised so far will be added to your new fundraising page once you sign up. You can still participate in the OC Marathon in November or 2021 with their automatic deferment.
