Tihealia is 17 and lives in Jamaica. She lost both of her parents at a young age and now lives with her brother and their aunt, Karen, in a small rented home. At 13, scoliosis affected her ability to walk.
“It was really hard for me,” Tihealia shared. “I was scared to be seen and very insecure.” But over time, she found strength and peace. “I was just going to love myself and accept who I am.”
Tihealia’s life changed when she received a new wheelchair through our local distribution partner, Food For The Poor. “Before getting the wheelchair, I would always stay inside my room,” she said. “Now, I can finally go to church on Sunday and go out to play with my brother.”

Tihealia lives in Jamaica—one of the countries hit hard when Hurricane Melissa devastated the Caribbean in October. Because of your support, a container of wheelchairs had already been sent and arrived just one week before the storm. They were already there, ready to be given out to those in need in the aftermath of disaster.
Your generosity makes moments like this possible. It allows us to keep wheelchairs flowing through trusted partner networks—so people receive mobility both before and after crises
