Irene is a 29-year-old woman in South Africa.

She was born with a disability, which could often a source of shame for her when she was younger. Due to lingering superstitions and misconceptions, some members of the community saw disability as a curse, leading them to shun her.

“Life has been hard,” she confessed, “and is still hard, but I keep on going.”

Without mobility, Irene would often be confined to her home, which was frustrating for this radiant, optimistic young woman. Despite the many challenges she has endured, Irene is determined to “get out into the world and show people who I am.”

Irene desperately needed a wheelchair and wished for one for years.

Thanks to the generosity of friends like you, Irene’s wish came true when she received a new GEN_3 wheelchair from our distribution partner, Network of Caring.

Irene broke into tears of joy when she was lifted into her brand-new wheelchair for the very first time. “I am very happy to be able to move,” she grinned. Now, Irene has the freedom and independence she has longed for. She can leave the house to take classes and meet with friends while learning a trade that will help her earn a living.

“God bless you,” said Irene to all who made this gift possible, “and give you more strength to help more people like us be able to move around.”

If you haven’t had a chance to do so yet, would you make a tax-deductible, year-end gift by December 31, 2022 to help us finish strong in 2022 and continue providing wheelchairs to more individuals like Irene?

Your gift of any size will provide mobility and offer renewed hope, freedom, and independence, opening new possibilities for education, employment, and community.

Make your tax-deductible gift prior to December 31, 2022 to take advantage of current tax laws.

Thank you for being part of Free Wheelchair Mission. Wishing you a Merry Christmas and a happy holiday season!
