Darcy (10) is the third of eight children. They live with their loving parents in the hills of rural Burundi.

When Darcy was four years old, his legs were amputated after tumors were found on them. He has never had any mobility aids, so his mother would carry him to school each day.

He loves school and is in the fourth grade. But without a wheelchair, Darcy couldn’t go outside with his friends unless someone was able to carry him.

Sometimes, Darcy would be left inside, watching his friends through the window while they played.

When our local distribution partner, Food for the Hungry Burundi, delivered a new GEN_2 wheelchair to Darcy, he was ecstatic. He could hardly wait to start using it, bristling with excitement as he eagerly waited for the team to make adjustments for a proper fit.

Then, Darcy grabbed the hand rims and started rolling across the room in his new wheelchair, grinning with a sense of freedom that he had never felt before.

“I have never seen Darcy so happy as he was the day he received the wheelchair,” proclaimed his father. “Thank you very much!”

Darcy thanked God for remembering him at a time like this. “From now on, I am free to go where I want without any help, like I used to,” relayed Darcy. “Glory be to God!”

Because of your generosity, Darcy felt seen by God.

That’s what we hope for. When we lift someone up into a wheelchair, we want them to feel like they are in God’s hands.

We want them to know that they are loved.

And with your ongoing prayers and support, we can continue to show people that they are loved by giving them the gift of mobility.

Thank you for partnering with us in this mission.
