Akulino, a 78-year-old man who lives in the northern region of Uganda, takes great pride in the town he loves, playing an active role in the daily life of his community as a town elder.

Unfortunately, Akulino fell and broke his hip eight years ago. After a two-month-long stay in the hospital, it was clear that he would never walk again.

Akulino was forced to scoot around in order to move about—a task made more difficult during the rainy season, when roads are left muddy and nearly impossible for him to traverse. As a town elder, Akulino is expected to attend all town meetings, and his loss of mobility made this important part of his life a challenge.

When Father’s Heart Mobility Ministry, our distribution partner in Uganda, learned of Akulino’s plight, they fitted him with a new GEN_2 wheelchair.

“This wheelchair makes me very, very happy,” Akulino exclaimed upon sitting in his new wheelchair for the first time. “When I heard about this day, I was amazed that God has answered my prayers.”

Thanks to the generosity of friends like you, Akulino can once again travel to town meetings and continue to be the leader his community deserves.

There are an estimated 70 million people around the world who need a wheelchair but cannot afford one on their own. Would you consider giving the gift of mobility today?
