“Most of the medical supplies that came in the last container are being used during this COVID-19 emergency to protect the healthcare workers. We are very thankful to you!”

– a Free Wheelchair Mission distribution partner in El Salvador

With the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) spreading around the globe, and as part of our “Mobility Beyond Wheelchairs” program, we were recently able to provide one of our partners in El Salvador with essential medical supplies at a time when they are in high demand and short supply.

We are so thankful that, with your support, we were able to have distributed these items well in advance of the pandemic so that they were on-hand in their time of need.

As part of our mission to provide the transforming gift of mobility to people with disabilities in developing nations, medical supplies and mobility aids have been a key part of serving the communities of our wheelchair recipients with items that magnify and supplement the impact of our wheelchairs.

The items provided to El Salvador and other communities include crutches, walkers, canes, and medical supplies such as masks, gloves, blankets, and more. These items help prevent or reduce the severity of a disability and are also essential in supporting these communities when epidemics, disasters, or other calamities strike.

In another example, surgical supplies sent to one of our distribution partners in Vietnam were used to correct clubfoot.

When rapid outbreaks or natural disasters strike around the world, children and adults living with disabilities in these communities are often at the greatest risk. They lack the basic mobility that we take for granted — mobility that would allow them to relocate away from danger or seek out medical care at a distant clinic or hospital. When diseases like COVID-19 spread, “social distancing” may not be an option for families who care for someone without mobility.

Healthcare workers in these areas urgently need essential medical supplies to care for patients and save lives.

Essential medical supplies help support the communities we serve.

As we press ahead in our mission during this pandemic, we continue to pray for you, our partners, and all those whom we serve around the world. We know how devastating this has been for so many, but we also have faith that we will pull through this together.

As you are able, we would be so grateful if you would also remember those with disabilities around the world who may also be suffering or at great risk at this time. While these are challenging times, we cannot lose sight of those who may otherwise be forgotten.

We would be so blessed if you would prayerfully consider supporting our Medical and Mobility Emergency Fund.

Your gift to this fund provides the communities we serve with essential medical supplies such as masks, gloves, needles, syringes, blankets, and more, in addition to mobility-assistance devices that include wheelchairs, walkers, and canes.

THANK YOU for your ongoing generosity that brings life-changing mobility to those who need it most.

We are with you and our mission continues!

Blessings,
