A Wheelchair Will Help Her Work

Nachulu Banda comes from Mbunga Village in Malawi. She lives in mud hut which is a common in this thatched roof village. She is in the business of buying and selling vegetables to support herself, but because of her disability it is almost impossible for her to do the work she needs to do.

When Nachulu was a young child, she was not disabled. She was born healthy and learned to crawl and walk like other little children. Sadly, shen Nachulu was five-years-old, she experienced a severe case of malaria. As a result of her illness, Nachulu was no longer able to walk.

Nachulu was married for a number of years, but her husband divorced her because she could not help out with the work he wanted her to do. Her father is still alive, but her mother has died. Nachulu has one grown daughter who is married and lives nearby.

Recently, Nachulu was presented with a wheelchair, thanks to a cooperative program of the Malawi Project, Blessings Hospital and Free Wheelchair Mission.

Upon receiving her wheelchair Nachulu expressed her great appreciation. "Thank you very much for this gift,” she exclaimed.  “As a business lady, this will be of great help. I will use this when I go to the markets to sell vegetables, and when I go to the gardens to buy vegetables.”

“I pray that God should bless you so that you can continue to support people with disabilities,” Nachulu said. “Thank you very much for helping me to do my job!"
