Ability through Mobility Award Dinner
Location:
Idaho Elks Rehabilitation Hospital
400 Robbins Road
Boise, ID
This inspiring dinner event will honor two men who, despite profound physical disability, have served others with disabilities. Joe Harris, a physical therapist with ALS is a program manager for Extra Hands for ALS in Boise. Despite that his physical movement is limited to just his eyes, Joe continues to inspire people suffering ALS and their families to develop "the courage to survive each day."
The other gentleman we will honor is Hernan Reyes, who suffered a spinal cord injury in a car accident more than 20 years ago and is paralyzed from the neck down. In addition to encouraging others at the Idaho Elks Rehabilitation Hospital with spinal cord injuries, Hernan has painted watercolor landscapes to benefit the Free Wheelchair Mission. A waterfall painting, which was made into prints to encourage the purchase of wheelchairs for people in third world countries, took Hernan three months to paint by holding his paintbrush in his teeth. The story of his selfless talent has been told as far away as Uganda, Africa.
