Greetings and Happy Friday!

December 2 , 2005

Here are some highlights of the week:

  • We placed an order for our 100,000th wheelchair! Wheelchairs take about a month to make and a month to ship. It will be delivered sometime in February, 2006. We will send a team to participate in this distribution and this achievement.
  • We had a very successful radiothon in Washington DC, bringing us over 200 new donors and funds for a container of wheelchairs.

This story comes from our own Kelley McGregor. She just came back from a mission trip to Chile. Kelley describes a ceremony where they gave away 200 wheelchairs:

We were not prepared for the onslaught of recipients. Disabled individuals began arriving in any and every way they could. Some arrived in taxis, where clearly someone had to carry them to get into the car. Some arrived in borrowed cars. Others were loaded onto buses. We helped lift them out and place them into their new wheelchair. The sense of relief by their families was palpable and we were honored to be a part of the experience. As they were lifted and carried off one by one, we began to wonder how long it took to load these buses full of immobile people. Families stood outside the buses, excited to see grandma or grandpa receive their new wheelchair. We realized then what a special event this was for the entire family.

We were overwhelmed when we realized that the wheelchair impacts not only the life of the recipient but also the family that supports them. Recipients and family members alike thanked us profusely, referring to us as the Americans who gave the wheelchairs. We kept telling them it was a gift from God. The wheelchair was an answer to their prayers.
