Greetings and Happy Friday!

October 21 , 2005

Here are some highlights of the week:

  • 350 wheelchairs are on a jet to earthquake devastated Pakistan, in partnership with Samaritans Purse.
  • The movie Emmanuel’s Gift is opening around the country.  It includes some gripping scenes of people in Ghana receiving our wheelchairs.  Check our website for theaters near you.
  • 1100 wheelchairs arrived in Peru and 550 arrived in India.

This story comes from Major Lisa of the US Army in Iraq:

On 12 October 2005, the Public Health Team, 322d Civil Affairs Brigade developed a distribution plan, began assembly, and started distributing your wheelchairs to our teams located throughout Iraq.  Our teams give the wheelchairs to specific Iraqi healthcare facilities, schools, and to needy Iraqis.

Our objective is to enable the Iraq healthcare system to provide healthcare and service to their own citizens.  As much as possible, we involve Iraqis in every step of the process: assembly, delivery, and distribution of your wheelchairs.  Your wheelchairs  have an immediate, positive impact by providing mobility to physically disabled Iraqis.

The most recent distribution took place at the Radwaniyah Medical Clinic to local Iraqi children.  We have another mission scheduled tomorrow.  This one is rather interesting because the Iraqi Police department will be the ones distributing 10 wheelchairs to needy Iraqi citizens.  I will be there as well taking pictures for you.

This is a wonderful mission.  The response has been overwhelming.  Thanks for helping us help the Iraqi people.  We found the Iraqi people need more wheelchairs than what I currently have on-hand.  Could you please send an addition 1,600 wheelchairs?
