This Story comes from Free Wheelchair
Mission volunteer, Bill Rice, on
his recent mission trip to Oaxaca,
Mexico:
I
think the story that stands out for
all of us is about an old man in San
Agustin. He was carried into the
distribution area and sat quietly while
the politicians made their speeches.
One common theme I have seen everywhere
I travel with Free Wheelchair Mission
is the local politicians love to talk.
Anyway,
the old man looked uncomfortable but
he stayed quiet until it was his turn
to get a chair. My daughter, Victoria,
and Steve Elliff (Free Wheelchair Mission
volunteer) took a chair to him and
helped him into the chair. Then, he
just started sobbing and crying. I
tried to speak to him through an interpreter
but he just kept crying.
Finally
his adult son helped me speak with
him. The man is 67 years old and was
crying because he could not believe
that strangers loved him enough to
bring him a wheelchair. He had been
praying for a chair for years and now
his prayers had been answered.
