Here is one announcement:

  • On May 24 we will have our first Radiothon: KKLA 99.5 with Frank Pastore from 4:00 to 7:00 PM. Tune in! We have interviews and stories galore, with live interviews from some of our distribution partners in developing countries.
  • Anyone in Southern California want to volunteer on our phone lines for this Radiothon? We can use your help!

With much courage, Kim jumped on a plane by herself last week for Lima to visit our partner there: Camino de Vida Church. She just sent us this story: Elderly Peruvian woman in her wheelchair

I have been following the Free Wheelchair Mission’s since the organization’s conception. What an honor it was to actually partake in a delivery of 100 wheelchairs in this small coastal town in north Peru and experience it all for myself. When I walked into the ceremony, there were 100 people with disabilities and their families who had come from various places around the province. I was immediately overcome with emotion. To finally be a part of the culmination of this dream for others: from the conception of the wheelchair in a garage in Santa Ana, with parts purchased in Asia, and so many organizers, fundraisers, donors; to assemblers in Peru, and finally to 100 needy people of poverty. Many of these individuals have either been disabled from birth, or accidents, or polio, or strokes. It was overwhelming as I stood there, and words cannot express my feelings. It was truly an honor to witness the fruit of the labor of so many. Grandpa in his wheelchair

Here are a couple endearing moments I witnessed while we handed out one wheelchair at a time:

-An elderly man’s family put their grandpa in the chair. I went to give him a hug and say “Congratulations!” He took my hand, held it very tight to his face, and closed his eyes. Then he looked up to the sky, opened his toothless mouth and began wailing! In turn, it brought tears to all of our eyes- tears of joy and cries of disbelief.

-An elderly lady who was missing a leg gave me her walking stick as a gift. She was so happy to receive the wheelchair and that she’d never need her stick again!

I salute all of you for making our dream a reality – a dream we never realized could change so many people’s lives.
