Our partner Jonathan
from Camino de Vida sent us this message:
This story comes from a home for abandoned disabled children
in Cajamarca, Peru, called Santa Dorotea. This is an epidemic
throughout Peru where the parents don’t know what to do
when a child is born with a disability. Several parents believe
that if they give birth to a disabled child that means they have
been cursed. They also don’t know how to care for them. They
do not have the means or the knowledge. So, they end up abandoning
them.
The director of the home explained,
“We have 50 abandoned disabled children here at Santa
Dorotea. We are continually asking for aid, i.e., clothes,
food, physical therapists, medical equipment, etc. Thankfully
we receive clothing and food, but in the 10 years that we have
been open we have never received anything
like we received today! These 8 wheelchairs will help us so
much! Thank you for remembering the poorest of the poor,
and especially these children!" |
