Greetings and Happy Friday!

April 1, 2005

Here are highlights of the week:

  • A container of wheelchairs arrived in Sri Lanka.
  • Our goal was to send 5 containers to our partners that were hit by the tsunami disaster. In fact we sent 6, with 4 going to south India and 2 to Sri Lanka!
This story comes from Princess Evelyn of Outreach to Africa in Uganda:Lydia in her new wheelchair

Praise God! I hope life is going well and thanks for the work you are doing among us – people with disabilities.

My name is Lydia. I was born 31 years ago like any other normal child. I am told I was a very lively and lovely baby. Tragedy struck at one year old. I got a strong fever and my mummy took me to the hospital. The fever was recurrent, and after some weeks my whole body became paralyzed. I have not stood up since. I underwent two surgeries to try to stop my legs from withering. I crawl on all fours now.

Despite my disability, I completed high school. I work as a secretary and use my salary and loans so I can go to college and get my degree in business. My vision is to start an organization advocating human rights of women with disabilities in Uganda.

A few months ago I saw a program on TV talking about free wheelchairs given by Outreach to Africa and Free Wheelchair Mission. You told me to meet you at Miracle Center Church. What a perfect name for that church, as there you gave me a wheelchair! Thank the Almighty for enabling me to hear about you.
