Greetings and Happy Friday!

March 18, 2005
Some highlights this week:
  • Let us know what you think of the new banner for our Friday stories!
  • Our first container for tsunami victims in Sri Lanka arrived this week.
  • We received a $50,000 grant each year for the next three years.

This story comes from our friends in Santiago, Chile:

My name is Isolina, and I work for FEDES Foundation. It is incredible for me to know the amount of people that need a wheelchair. To see the emotion and tears of the people when they receive your wheelchair after some have been waiting for years is spiritually enriching. Some have waited in never ending lines, getting so much government paper work that never ends, knocking on many doors and never having someone listen to them. Families give up after such negligence of the public services. They stop searching. We find many disabled are abandoned, sick, and they feel that they are in everyone's way.

For us, all they have to show is that they are poor, have a simple notice from the doctor, and tell us their story, and right away they receive a wheelchair. If they cannot come to us, we get a picture of them when we deliver the wheelchair.

Your wheelchair comes like a real salvation for the disable person and their family, helping to give them a better life and confirming God's existence, since this is for them a real miracle.

Here is but one example. Elogio fell 10 years ago, and he has had to stay in this bed ever since. He is so happy now. He keeps his wheelchair in bed so it will be there when he needs it!
