This
story comes from Jonathan Lopez of Camino de Vida Church in
Lima, Peru:
"This
past weekend we distributed wheelchairs in the South East Jungle
in a town called Puerto Maldonado. It took over 7 days of travel
to get these wheelchairs to their final destination. These
areas are often forgotten and rarely receive any type of help.
Accompanying us was Peru's Minister of Justice Eduardo Salhuana. We were
greeted stepping off the plane by hundreds of people, T.V., news reporters
and a marching band. This was the first time a public official of his
rank ever visited this part of the jungle. Later that afternoon we handed
out the wheelchairs in the scorching heat standing alongside the Catholic
Bishop, a local Pastor, the Minister of Justice, and Pastor David Perry
of our own church in Lima. What the Lord began
to do was something that never has happened before in this country! The
Bishop went to the local Pastor and gave him a huge hug and said, 'I
know more about you than you do about me. I hear of all that you are
doing in this jungle town, helping to meet the needs of so many. Is there
any way we can work together?' Later that night the Minister of Justice
invited Pastor David Perry to dinner and they discussed how he wanted
more Christians to work together with him to reach the community. Pastor
David began to share with him all that they are doing with helping the
12 & 13 year old prostitute girls get off the street and readjust
to a healthy lifestyle. The Minister of Justice said he would look for
ways to sponsor his project. Isn’t God awesome!
It’s amazing what kind of doors your wheelchairs are opening
- let alone the impact they are having on the family and individual
receiving
the wheelchair! Continue to pray as we travel all over Peru with the
top officials of this country. We are distributing
2200 wheelchairs this month! Thanks for you prayers – you
are a vital link to all that we are able to do in Peru!"
