Greetings and Happy Friday!

March 4, 2005

Some highlights this week:

  • Our Board member John Sexton is leading a small mission to Ghana.
  • We are having an open house at our new office on March 14. If you did not receive an email invitation, please reply to this message.
  • We received a $10,000 grant from the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation.

This story comes from Robert Kalatschan of Giving it Back to Kids. He is talking about distributing the container of wheelchairs in Viet Nam:
Young Vietnamese Girl in her wheelchair

The staff and I have personally overseen the distribution of over 450 wheelchairs. What an awesome feat by our staff and the local committees that have helped to locate, qualify and distribute these gifts. Next on our schedule was to visit several of the recipients at their homes. It was not until now that I realized what a success this was. Most of them were not home! Earlier today I was a bit disappointed, but as I type this I realized that is what we were working to accomplish! These people, who one could always count on finding stuck at home, were nowhere to be found. They were out! That my friend is a huge Yea God - Mission Accomplished!

It is staggering to see what an incredible need still exists. As we wound our way through streets (often no wider then 4 feet) looking for the recipients' homes, our local peoples committee representative would point out others still bed ridden, many of them children, just looking out the open doors as we passed. I must remind myself of the truth I learned on one my first visits to this country, always to look at what we have accomplished, always look at each case as a separate person loved of God. When we finish this phase, 550 have the gift of mobility, and I personally believe a new sense of self esteem.

We were able to find two of the recipients, one at her home in her chair smiling and another at her spot in the market selling her goods, only this time she came using her new wheelchair.

Thank you, and GOD BLESS! Robert
