Greetings and Happy Friday!

February 24 , 2006

Here are some highlights for the week:

  • Three containers arrived in Peru, two in Kenya, three in Kuwait on way to Iraq, and one in Indonesia.
  • Containers are in route to Ghana, Uganda (2), Mexico, Nepal, Uzbekistan, Nicaragua, India, Chile (2), Brazil and the Dominican Republic.

We got our first container into Jamaica in December.  Here is a story from Al, our partner there:
Anne Marie

Ann Marie is an intense 29-year-old young lady.  When she first arrived to pick up a wheelchair she conveyed a strong suspicion about the Free Wheelchair program.  After hearing her story it is understandable why she feels the way she did. Six years ago she was riding on a public bus when gunmen began firing into the bus filled with people.  She was struck in the spine, which has left her paralyzed from the waist down.   Getting adequate medical treatment was difficult if not impossible at times.  She said " no one cared what happened to me". When presented with her new wheelchair she wanted to know what it is was going to cost her, thinking the program was some kind of mean trick.

When she finally realized the chairs were really free her whole demeanor changed.   “Do you mean the people from the U.S. are giving this to me?”

She added with a softer tone in her voice: "Thank you for caring and giving me another opportunity to get about, this is a blessing.  Its time for me to go to the Church of God and become a Christian."
