We raised enough money after expenses to permanently change the lives of over 2,200 people now living on the ground. That's a Wheelchair every 60 feet around the 26 mile Full Marathon Course! This year was just the start. We start preparing for 2007 next month and want all of you on board and to bring 10 of your friends with you.
20,000,000 is a big number!
A Weekend of Meals & Wheels . . .
THE WEEKEND. . .
First-time participation by FWM in a major athletic event gave the organization fabulous exposure to a whole new audience at the Lifestyle Expo, held on Friday and Saturday. Board members, volunteers, and Emmanuel manned the booth in the busy Exhibit Hall, providing us a terrific opportunity to hand out literature, answer questions, and make new contacts.

The "Wheels Around the World" dinner was held Friday evening and was hosted by the most enthusiastic MC possible - John Sexton. Our honored guests were, Don Schoendorfer, Emmanuel Ofosu Yeboah and Ms. Peggy Fleming. After viewing a brief video, Emmanuel told his amazing story and left the stage to a standing ovation! Peggy Fleming's comments were gracious and uplifting and provided an upbeat and warm finale to a memorable evening. Event Photos

On Sunday:
5:30am FWM Supporters and Staff and Volunteers were on the course setting up our booth with coffee and bagels and t-shirts and hats and creating a supportive and exciting environment for all of us!

6:58am The first "Run for Mobility" Wheelchair race took off with Wheelchair racers doing the 1/2 Marathon course.

7:00am The 1/2 Marathon and Full Marathon runners took off. John Sexton and Tori Coyle from Dallas were among the FWM fundraisers in the full marathon group. Ines Franklin and Deborah Anderson finished the 1/2 marathon with Deborah doing a 1/2 mile sprint to the finish line.

8:30am Emmanuel Ofosu Yeboah, as official starter for the 5k Run/Walk, gave the signal and started off the the race himself. He was joined by Don Schoendorfer and Dr. Mike Bayer and all three walked the course wheeling little Peyton Vaughn in her pink wheelchair. Very moving. Event Photos

  • Peyton Vaughn, a precious physically challenged four year old, who raised over $800 with her family to participate in the 5 K.
  • Ines Franklin who had printed and arranged for posters and a wheelchair to be placed at every mile of the 13 mile 1/2 marathon.
  • Brad and Neva Koon raised enough to buy OVER 1/2 a container and then did the 5k run/walk. They raised over $14,000!
  • Erica Ucolano and Team OT from Samuel Merritt College in Oakland. Awesome group of young women raised $4,591.24 and ran the race on Sunday. Welcome to our FWM Community!
